Color contact lenses are a fashion statement by themselves. With color contacts, you get the look you want when you feel like it. Colored contact lenses are available in colors that range from grey to violet from brown to green from honey to turquoise. In addition, you can purchase colored lenses that are blends of different colors, or lenses that merely add sparkle and glamour to your eyes. These lenses, sometimes called plano lenses, meaning they have no corrective vision power are available as non-disposable and disposable lenses. Disposable lenses can be worn for various lengths of time depending upon the brand. They can be worn for a week, two weeks, a month, forty-five days or even one-hundred and eighty days, again depending upon which type you purchase. In addition, most color contact lenses no prescription are soft lenses making it easier for your eyes to adjust to them.
Most color contact lenses are only available by prescription, as well-fitted color prescription contact lenses require measurements from a doctor. Before you decide, know the types of color prescription contact lenses, the safety, and the disadvantages.
Types of Color Lenses
Nancy Del Pizzo, a writer for All About Vision, claims that there are 4 types of color contact lenses: : visibility tints, enhancement tints, opaque color tints and light-filtering tints.
- The visibility tint has a light blue or green color added to help you find your contacts only. They do not affect eye colour. They were tinted for a practical reason.
- An enhancement tint is a solid (but translucent) tint that affects eye color, however not in a dramatic way, as it will just emphasize the existing color of your eyes.
- Color tinted lenses are deep opaque tints that alter your eye color, e.g. can turn your black pupils into blue ones. They are made of solid colored patterns. These include the theatrical or cosmetic lenses. These lenses may make eyes look like eight balls or cat eyes.
- The final is a light-filtering tint that is filters out certain colors of light. Light-filtering tints are the ones used by sportsmen and spectators. For a special light or filter allows them to see certain objects better For example, a yellow filter allows the tennis ball to be clearly seen as it makes the ball stand out while muting the surroundings.
Safety
Marilyn Haddrill, a medical writer, offers that colored contacts should only be worn if they are color prescription contact lenses, not simply contacts used to create creepy or fun eyes. Wearing these lenses without could be illegal and is probably unhealthy. So don’t wear friends’ contacts! And avoid ordering online to be safe.
Disadvantages
While wearing color contact lenses, you may find that they may not fit as well as you would like and may slide over the pupil. Also, specifically in the dark, your pupils may be larger than the clear space allotted for the pupil within the lens. This may have an effect on your vision.
Keep Them Clean!
Pizzo also insists that taking care of nonprescription colored contacts is just as important as taking care of prescription colored contacts. You must clean and disinfect all contact lenses, understanding that your eye health depends on proper care.
Color Contacts Without Prescription
In the past, the FDA seized a shipment of Plano lenses that were imported into the United States because they believe the lenses "present significant risks of blindness and other eye injury if they are distributed without a prescription or without proper fitting by a qualified eye care professional."
Bill HR31, which asks that non-corrective, non-prescription contact lenses be classified as medical devices, was being considered by Congress as this article was written. If the bill passes (or has been passed already), then there will be no way to buy colored contact lenses with no prescription. You will have to see your eye doctor about it even if you don’t have any vision problems and only wish to change your eye color for fun or cosmetic reasons.
