Remember the character Storm from X-men, played by Oscar Award winning Halle Berry? Storm was the mutant from Africa who could manipulate the weather, causing high winds or hurricanes to rise up and aid her teammates in times of crises. Just before she was about to use her powers, Storm’s eyes would turn completely white and glow in the dark. Halle Berry’s white glow in the dark contact lenses were provided by Cantor and Nissel, a special effects company that supplies contact lenses to film and television studios. Cantor and Nissel are also the people behind the creepy vampire eyes in Interview with the Vampire among many others. There are several different types of white glow in the dark contact lenses, all available to the public, and all perfect for Halloween.

Pre-made non-prescription lenses go for about half the price of prescription lenses. Some of the off-shoots of white lenses include “dead eyes”, which are filmy, milky and cloudy and cast a white pall over the user’s entire eye, and one called “Night Life”, which is a completely white iris with large black pupil in the center.

Some white glow in the dark contact lenses come with cleaning solution and directions. During the day they will look very different from your normal eye color and at night they glow under ultra-violet light, and due to their comparative simplicity are cheaper than most other fantastical type lenses. You may not be able to control the weather, but to any fans of X-men, you’ll look just like Storm!

Proper Usage

According to Lenses by Mail, these lenses are for theatrical use only, not for general purposes. Halloween Online does however state that they can be worn anytime.

These lenses still require an examination to be worn. Even if your vision does not require a prescription for correction, it is imperative that the lenses that you place on your eyes fit correctly so that they do not slide around on the eye and create problems for your eyes. Halloween online also recommends placing your glow in the dark Halloween contact lenses in proper cases, and changing them every three months as a part of proper usage. Never, under any circumstances, share contacts or wear someone else’s contacts and wash your hands before taking the contacts out, or putting them back in.
