Superior Oblique Myopia

Superior oblique myopia is an eye condition that does not occur as frequently as other refractive errors. It is defined as an eye condition that occurs when the eyeballs are slightly longer than usual from front to back. When this condition is present, the light rays will end up focusing at a point in front of the retina, rather than directly on its surface. Superior oblique Myopia is also commonly called nearsightedness. The superior oblique is an exterior and voluntary muscle found attached to the outside of the eyeballs and the bones of the orbit. These muscles are responsible rotating the eyes downward and toward the side of the head.

How can superior oblique myopia be corrected? This eye condition can be corrected with the use of eye glasses, contact lenses or refractive surgery.
